The cover looks really striking and atmospheric, with a strong sense of mood that instantly pulls attention and feels very cinematic. What inspired the visual theme you chose, and does it connect to a specific moment or symbol in your story?
Thank you so much <3 I very much just let the artist cook so a lot of the credit goes to them. The idea behind the composition we ended up agreeing on is 2 fold.
The more literal is the representation of the culmination of act 1 scene where Ronan turns around to Zoey in his fully transformed form, so without the human disguise, for the first time. It’s very emotional and changes their relationship because they go from guesswork and assumptions to full truth between them.
The second had to do with the idea of where Ronan’s center is, I.e. Zoey, and for Zoey what is her true anchor/guiding light. Which is “inside Ronans heart” in a way, which is why we settled on this idea of Zoey being represented in a warm comforting glow protected inside Ronan and inside of his forest.
The starlight background is a thematic imagery that pops up through out the book as well, on top of the fact that The Village can only be entered on foot at night.
Lastly, the small town below Zoey is really just meant to identify the setting as small town so the reader knows it’s not high fantasy.
That is a BEAUTIFUL cover! I know what you mean re: "urban" as a genre element. I have written some urban and portal fantasies that oscillate between two worlds, and it makes covers that bit more challenging. I think you guys nailed it here!
